Leather-clad kick boxing women - what else do you want ?

Any lover of 50's 'B' movies should tune into this ridiculous, over-the-top, bad-taste film which despite everything is great fun to watch. Shannon Tweed may be limited in her acting range, but for entertainment value give the girl a gold suspender belt in recognition for her services to cinema.

'Electra' concerns a wheelchair-bound (and therefore emasculated) meglomaniac called Roach, who seeks world domination in a James Bond-villain kind of way. He needs a serum which can be passed on sexually and Shannon Tweed's step-son Billy (whom she fancies) has the serum in him and they both become the target of Roach's henchmen (and women - there are two particularly appealing black-clad, erotic but deadly, kickboxing female assistants).

The plot is relatively tight and everything reaches a climax with Shannon Tweed becoming Electra and fighting her stepson's girlfriend for his bodily fluids. Roach meets his demise with an exploding head finale (like Scanners), and everything trundles along happily to a selection of out-takes before the final credits.

First rate entertainment - anyone who slates this film should have their video taken off them - they don't understand the meaning of fun.

BEST SCENE - Billy's girlfriend has a fight with two leather-clad girls, ripping the heart out of one of them !!!

Surprisingly, good

As a rule, direct-to-video films aren't particularly good. Another reliable rule is that movies with the prefix "cyber" in them aren't likely to be any good (this film is also known as "Cybertech P.D."). Well, somehow, this film manages to beat the odds and be worthwhile, and that is an amazing achievement for this type of film. It's nothing particularly special, but it has a good sense of humour and a reasonably well-known cast that helps keep the movie buoyant. Sure, you'll forget about it as soon as the credits start to roll, but if you're looking for a decent time-filler that is somewhat off-the-beaten-path, then I suggest that you give this movie a chance.

An Experiment?

This movie has something strange.. I think it's some kind of an experiment. There is nearly no storyline which develops during the running film. But there is an amazing cinematography by George Mooradian! (Widescreen-Version only!) It seems to be a test of how to produce a movie which "lives" by the moving camera. Sometimes there are nearly no cuts in 1 minute, or so. The editor tried some new ways of filmmaking, I think. From this point of view, the film is amazing! The Scope-Camera moves really fast and virtuously... But maybe Albert Pyun is as dumb as everyone thinks and so they just made another low-budget-product!!! Who knows........

A rare real "zero stars" movie

You know how people often say "even I could make a better movie than this" when they watch one they don't like? They're exaggerating, of course. But in the case of "Toad Warrior", they may actually have a point. Since this "movie" - more accurately, a collection of random images posing as a movie - has no script, no professional camera-work, no professional actors (and those who are professional certainly don't act like it), and absolutely no production values, it gives you the impression that it could have been made by a bunch of college kids on a weekend trip - although if it HAD been, it would probably be more entertaining than this. Yesterday I watched "Rollergator" by the same director (and with some of the same crew): although it was awful as well, it had a certain surreal charm to it. This one has no charm - it is simply a big FU from the director to the audience (and even to the fans of the original "Hell Comes To Frogtown"). If you do decide to watch it, my guess is that you won't last to the end. Any takers?

Jet Li rocks!!!

In Stand By Me, Vern and Teddy discuss who was tougher, Superman or Mighty Mouse. My friends and I often discuss who would win a fight too. Sometimes we get absurd and compare guys like MacGyver and The Terminator or Rambo and Matrix. But now it seems that we discuss guys like Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee and Jet Li. It is a pointless comparison seeing that Lee is dead, but it is a fun one. And if you go by what we have seen from Jet Li in Lethal 4 and Black Mask, you have to at least say that he would match up well against Chan. In this film he comes across as a martial arts God.

Black Mask is about a man that was created along with many other men, to be supreme fighting machines. Their only purpose is to win wars that other people lose. They are invincible in some ways. Now that is the premise for the film, but what that does is sets up all the amazingly choreographed fight scenes.

Jet Li is a marvel. He can do things with and to his body that no human being should be able to do. And that is what makes watching him so fun.

Besides the martial arts in the film, Black Mask is strong with humour and that is due to the chemistry that Jet has with his co-star, the police officer. They are great together. But to be honest. if anyone is reading this review, they want to know if the film is kick ass in the action department. And the answer to that is a resounding YES!!! Lots and lots of gory mindless action. You will love this film.

An Inspiration

This film is an inspiration to young movie makers.

This film is a terrible waste of tape but not a waste of time.

If you are a young filmmaker and you're feeling down on your luck when it comes to getting something put together... then see if you can get your hands on this movie.

It's obvious that these movie makers somehow found enough money to make alligator costumes and various special effects (although very cheesy). It was shot on film & transferred to an AVID NLE system (composer). They had money. Not Hollywood money, but the equipment they used does not come cheap… I'd guess about 10-20 thousand dollars… beginning to end.

It's a simple story, with terrible acting! I get a sense that this story was written overnight by somebody with ADD and an overactive imagination… on a post-it note. Who gave these people money to make this wretched thing? I don't want to be too critical of it. Every now and then, I like to see a film like this to remind myself that there are worse things out there being made all the time! :-) My GOD... listen to the music!! It sounds like it was written and recorded by my grandmother! Oh my gosh... people actually put their names on this production?! What an embarrassment... this is not portfolio material.

I tried to find the production company responsible for this, but it appears that they may no longer be around… gee, I wonder why.

I say, if you can find it at your local rental store for less than 99c CAN, then check it out. Be warned, it is a bad movie.

Look out! It's a rubber raptor!

Here in England, we've not had the pleasure of seeing Carnosaur 1+2 and the film is just titled "Primal Species". Without the precedent of such un-doubtedly classic prequels, I had no idea what the film would be like (except for some guesswork based on the video cover).

Nothing much needs to be said about the film except that it is one of the worst of the worst of the worst films ever. Not that that's a huge criticism. It's extremely entertaining. To be honest the sight of those men in rubber dinosaur costumes was funnier than many proper comedies. Equally funny is the swat team leader's constant smirk and attempts to sound hard. The main death's were enjoyable too, firstly because the sight of fake monsters chewing on people is funny, and secondly because it meant that another annoying character had been wiped out.

For an alternative night's entertainment, I would recommend this in a double-bill with something like Demolition University. You'll laugh till you ache or simply fall asleep. Either way, you'll be happy.

"Daddy look! The stars!"

Er, where's the demand for the Project Shadowchaser films? I suppose there might be some sort of cult following somewhere, folks that just love to see Frank Zagarino stagger through another film, pretending to be a cyborg or alien or whatever he's meant to be in these films. Believe it or not, but this is the fourth film in the series, and guess what? It's crap. But therein lies the fun part.

The first time I attempted to watch this film I was sent off to sleepy-land on a bed of endless chase sequences and tame, tame action. However, I tried again and found a really bad chase film full of mistakes, chronic acting, a terrible script, and loads of laugh out loud pieces.

In Africa, 2963 years ago to be precise, a tribe of folks are giving it some moves around a campfire when a spaceship lands and what looks like bunch of Billy Idol clones jump out, watched by some grey aliens. The lead Idol clone (Zagarino) gives half a key to the tribe's chief, who joins it up with another key. Zagarino then takes the key into some underground complex and activates a machine. Job done, they all jump in the spaceship, which stupidly gets struck by lightening and explodes.

Jump forwards to the future, where a couple of archaeologists are digging the area (it's pretty groovy). The husband is adamant that they will find some great secret about an ancient tribe, but his missus is giving him grief because they've got no cash and there's the middling matter of their son being catatonic in a hospital following a car crash and they can't pay the locals. Give the guy a break, missus!

Of course, they find half a key, so Zagarino wakes up (somehow caused by an email getting sent!) and burst out of his cave to go get the key. The couple's boss, Morton, also wants the key and sends his henchman, Silver to get it. Silver is mental though, and just tries to kill the couple even though the wife was willing to give the key to the guy in order to get cash to get her son out of the hospital into somewhere better. Also, Zagarino just runs around the place smashing things to bits rather than explain why he wants the key. Got all that?

So, the couple are on the run from Silver, the kid's kidnapped by Morton, Zagarino's charging through the scenery like Arnie's PCP addicted brother, and they all end up at the underground lair, where things get a bit Raiders of the Lost Ark.

This film is superficially a bit tame and boring (it's by Nu-Image after all), but there's so much wrong with the film that I couldn't help but like it. It's full of mistakes and gaffs (look for the extra at the beginning who burns himself on a torch!), lameness (Silver especially can't act) and quirkiness (why did we have to see the lead actress stop for a pee break?) that I couldn't help but enjoy it. Zagarino is so bland he's like the Pot Noodle of action stars, but this film should give bad movie fans a good laugh. Loved the trick ending too.

Insane alien invasion film is lots of fun.

I can attest that THE SILENCERS does not have either deep insight or much depth, but this motion picture is refreshingly entertaining and sometimes hilarious thanks to some extensive action scenes and an affable performance by Dennis Christopher.

The government has denied their existence...but they are here, waiting for mankind to show mercy. Intergalactic space fugitives who call themselves the "Men in Black" claim that they come in peace. However, wherever they go, death and destruction follow...

These Men in Black are here to make sure mankind disavows any knowledge about a superior extra-terrestrial race. Their job though is more than coercing people to deny the existence of aliens. Rather, the primary goal of these Men in Black is to bring mankind down to their knees. In order to accomplish this, the Men in Black must work in collusion with the U.S. military. Both sides are helping to construct an "inter-dimensional portal" (or something like that) which will serve as a gateway for both worlds. What the people do not know is that these aliens have already conquered four worlds...and Planet Earth is next.

Only Secret Super Agent Rafferty (Jack Scalia) has the will to stop these bizarre fiends. However, when the challenges become overwhelming, even the hero could use a little backup. That's when galactic officer Comdor (Dennis Christopher) enters the battle...

UFOs, inter-dimensional portals, government conspiracies, military cover-ups, and Clarence Williams III are the main features of this contrived but gratifying sci-fi action flick. THE SILENCERS is another fun production from none other than the PM Entertainment Group, Inc. There is really nothing new here, but this film does generously offer plenary ingenious action sequences and violence. There is a lot to recommend in this surprisingly amiable action movie. One of this movie's shining moments was when a car crashed right through a helicopter. That scene rocked! Probably the most amusing scene in this movie was when model toy trains were utilized to simulate a train collision(!) Man, there is no stopping the Richard Pepin and Joseph Merhi twosome. They just keep on grinding out sensational spectacles! These guys are the harbingers of slick B-movies.

What makes THE SILENCERS better than the typical sci-fi offering is this film's astute sense of humor and touches of assiduous artistry. The levitating cow in the movie's prelude is a jocular gesture of how often aliens love to study "intelligent" life forms. Also, those aliens, the Men in Black look so freakishly scary with their darkened eyes. The co-star of this movie, Dennis Christopher is smooth in this movie too. He plays an appropriately valiant hero who manages to maintain a soft side. It is humorous how Christopher, the alien warrior, speaks so eloquently about the beauties of nature and how human beings can sometimes take their lives for granted.

As an added bonus, the filmmakers were conscious enough to throw in a nice message promoting a clean environment. I am also glad that there is a statement in this film about how youths should expand their minds rather than relegate themselves to playing an "action hero."

Considering the low budget production values, this film still manages to retain a modicum of dignity. THE SILENCERS may be short on plot and logic, but long on action scenes so hey, this is my type of movie. It is aimed specifically for those germane, macho trigger-happy male crowds! There are no excuses to be made, just revel in the gunfire, chases, explosions, and stunts. THE SILENCERS may be generic, formulaic, and cliché, but it is still moderately sustainable. This is even enjoyable especially for genre fans. I found this film to be much better than what my original disposition has been. This movie is a good rental for a rainy day.

Forget MEN IN BLACK...see this movie instead! THE SILENCERS does not rely on big bucks for fabricated special effects. This film zooms at a fast clip with eye-catching action. If you have a penchant for glass-breaking excitement, then this movie is for you. Have fun...and leave reality behind for once!

I tried to like this movie. I really did. But as much as it had a lot of potential, it was ultimately disappointing.

I appreciated the attempt at an image-heavy (as opposed to dialogue-heavy) film, but I just didn't get it. From what I understand from reading other info about it, there's a comic book to go with it. I think this film should have been given more stand-alone value.

The acting was terrible, and the pace was far too slow, even for a film of this nature. I understood a lot of what was going on, but there was too little information about the mysterious character himself, and too much useless flashback of the other guy. How did his sister die? It's obvious she dies, but never clearly explained.

I like indie films, but sometimes making one too ambiguous just completely leaves the audience out of the loop, no matter how beautiful it looks. And it's really hard to enjoy a movie that way.

Eddie Kasalivich, an undergraduate at the University of Chicago, works as a technician for a scientific team that discovers an alternative, low-cost, pollution-free fuel source. When one of the chief scientists is murdered and the invention stolen, Eddie and physicist Lily Sinclair are framed for it and have to flee for their lives, with the FBI, CIA and other involved parties in close pursuit. Paul Shannon, Eddies mentor, is the director of a scientific company which - unknown to Eddie - has commercial interests in the invention. Eddie and Lily set out to find the stolen invention and hopefully clear themselves of the false charges.

Actually

Actually, the above poster is incorrect. Reeves is a machinist in this movie who is helping the scientists build the parts not a scientist. And that matters in this movie because Reeves actually does pretty well for once as an actor.

The concept of the movie isn't a new one, an industrial-military conspiracy to control technology because the masses aren't "ready" to deal with it yet. Freeman actually played the most interesting character. He kind of flip-flops throughout the movie and you're not sure what to think of him until the final scene.

Regardless, it wasn't the best movie nor the worst movie ever made. Reeves acted pretty well and the writing was semi-believable. If you're looking for a fast paced movie that you don't have to think too much on

• this movie isn't a bad rental to see.

Nice sci-fi action with welcome doses of humor and solid performances all around. Gun-toting drug runners cross paths with camping college students in the deep woods, with an alien organism thrown into the mix. Double and triple crosses, lots of gunplay and alien body-snatching in this fun outing.

Disappointed



Considering the stellar cast and comments in other forums, and the availability of "Director's Cut" and "Family" editions, I was expecting a sex comedy with dinosaurs. If you want one of those, see the much more entertaining _Dinosaur Island_.

This is a dumb cave man comedy, with women who expose their breasts now and then. Considering the Los Angeles women in animal skin bikinis motif, the costumes are not particularly flattering. There's very little sex in it, and the ever-radiant Griffin Drew gets very little screen time and hardly does anything but smile and sunbathe a little.

There are some stop-action dinosaurs, but they're rather stiff and simple. There are also some real lizards that only make the stop-action dinosaurs look even less real.

For a better dumb cave man comedy, see _When Women Had Tails_ or _Cave Man_ For the definitive babe in a doeskin bikini, _One Million Years BC_ still has not been surpassed.
